THE PROJECT
bRITTANY sODEMANN, GLAMOUR GHOUL, asked ME to create a website that is more upfront, less cluttered, and more appealing than HER competitors.
research into Glamour Ghoul’s competitors showed that most of them try to sell themselves rather than their product/skills through long anecdotes and playful service descriptions. While this makes most of Glamour Ghoul’s competitors personable, they fail to mention prices and fees in what seems to be an attempt to get you to contact them so they can further sell themselves. That said, my USER research showed that having to contact someone for information is seen as a hassle and, sometimes, a deterrent. Another deterrent is poor design: too many page links, unorganized images, too much text, poorly laid out information architecture, colors, etc.

The client ASKED THAT I KEEP THINGS SIMPLE as she mainly promotes herself through social media and she wants the site to feel like an accessory and not a necessity.

Takeaways
This project taught me that users want contractors to be open and honest upfront, which means that a site needs to informative, but not so much so that a user feels overwhelmed and possibly suspicious of hidden agreements/fees.
